CROSSPOINTE ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES

IIn order to create an atmosphere for each student to develop to his/her full potential, CCA’s activity program provides frequent group enrichment and socialization activities for all students enrolled in either our full-time or Home-school programs.  These activities and programs are designed to provide socialization and competition in academic, recreational and entertainment involving students in the school and at times, students in nearby groups.

LITERATURE FESTIVAL

In February of each year, CrossPointe Christian Academy holds an annual Literature Festival.  The Literature Festival is a celebration of the splendid world of books that we purposefully explore with our children. The 2008 Literature Festival promises to be another year of events like character parades, book signings, poetry writing, literature presentations, recitations, storytellers and much more.  Every year there is something new and exciting for every student to participate in as they delve further into the world of reading.

ART

Pre-1st through 8th grade students study great artists and their works, while enjoying developmentally appropriate hands-on art projects in a variety of mediums and techniques.  Picture Study is utilized in order that children may be put in touch with the contribution that each famous artist has made to what is beautiful and worthwhile. In teaching drawing and sketching skills, children are encouraged to develop the practice of “observing” and not merely “seeing” the world around them.

MUSIC

CrossPointe Christian Academy has enjoyed years of wonderful music instruction.  Students are exposed to the great composers and begin to recognize their works.  They are instructed in music appreciation and learn several music genres each year.  Students participate in music making through singing and with instruments. The children sing all year as singing is one of the most basic skills of a musician.  They perform at least twice a year in either a concert or production.  Students will develop a musical vocabulary, listening abilities and rhythmic skills.  Private instruction in piano and flute is also available.

HANDBELL CHOIR

The Handbell Choir is a performance ensemble open to all interested students in grades 3 and up who wish to develop and share their musical ability and to have fun while doing so. Repertoire will be both sacred and secular from a variety of genres and styles. Performances will be a part of the choir and may consist of visits to churches, nursing homes and/or scheduled school concerts. By the end of the year, students will be a living example of God's gift of music, develop sight reading and rhythmic skills, know and be able to use basic musical vocabulary and symbols, demonstrate improvement in their technical skills and musicianship, demonstrate listening abilities, and develop a spirit of ensemble cooperation.  Two choirs exist, an advanced ensemble and an introductory ensemble for beginning students.

SCIENCE FAIR

CrossPointe Christian Academy will be hosting its 3rd annual Science Fair in the spring.  This is an exciting event that encourages students to think like young scientists. Students are encouraged to design a science project that uses the scientific method to solve a problem.  The educational benefits are numerous, as students develop skills in writing, oral presentation, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each student is given instructions and handouts for the various steps of completing a science project. All students who enter receive a ribbon for participation and the top winners in each category receive ribbons of honor.  This Fair is held in conjunction with the Arts Festival.

HISTORY FAIR

CrossPointe Christian Academy will hold its 2nd Annual History Fair in the spring of 2008.  This fair will be an opportunity for kids to be historians. They will be involved in primary historical research and will present their findings. History Fair students can choose their own topic from any era of history.  Based on their interests and abilities, they can also choose the method of presenting their information.  There are four presentation categories:  students may build an exhibit, write an historical paper, produce an audio-visual documentary, or create a dramatic performance.  Students may enter as individuals or in groups of 2 to 5.  They compete in one of 4 age divisions.  Grades 1-3 make up the Early Elementary Division, grades 4-6 make up the Upper Elementary Division, grades 7, & 8 the Junior Division, and grades 9-12 the Senior Division.  Ribbons of honor will be awarded for the winners of each division.  Judging is based chiefly on historical quality, use of primary sources, clarity of presentation and creativity.  While the program uses competition as a motivator, its main purpose is to stimulate interest in and enjoyment of history.  All entrants receive a ribbon for presentation.

ARTS FESTIVAL EXHIBIT

As in years past, CrossPointe students will have the opportunity to display their art work for the community to see at the annual Arts Festival held every spring.  Strolling through the festival, attendees will see a vast selection of extraordinary work done by CrossPointe student artists. Some student items will be available for sale as part of our annual fundraiser. Students can enjoy the recognition they receive for their creativity and display the talents God has given them.

BOOK-IT

Students in Primary through 6th grades that have read or had read to them twenty (20) books each month will receive a coupon for a free pizza.  Each student may be issued only one coupon per month.  Over the six month period, your child could read or have read to him/her 120 books and earn 6 free pizzas.  If there is 100% participation in a class, that class will receive a special pizza party.  Forms will be sent home for you to keep track of each book read.  Pre-K has a BOOK IT Program for two months in the spring.  Children are given a coupon for a free pizza at Pizza Hut based on the number of books read to the class by their teacher.

SIX FLAGS READING CLUB

Students in Primary through 6th grade may participate in the Six Flags Reading Club program.  If students read or are read to for six (6) hours or more, they qualify for a free ticket to Six Flags.  Forms will be sent home for you to keep track of the number of hours students read.

BOOK CLUB

Book clubs are an after school program held monthly for students of all ages.  Students that participate in CrossPointe’s book clubs experience the world of literature that takes them to worlds of travel, careers, adventure, fantasy, and imagination. The clubs provide a positive direction for students to explore their interests, different literary genres, and their world.  The clubs are an opportunity for students to read new books, share with old friends, make new friends and to use their active imaginations.  Students are notified of the book selection and may choose to participate in book club for their age group.  Some of the activities that may occur at the club meeting are:  hands-on activities, book talk and discussions, learning a new skill and more.  Book clubs provide an opportunity for the students to socialize with one another over the topic of literature- what a wonderful experience.

THANKSGIVING RE-ENACTMENT

Another event that encourages our students to become historians is the annual Harvest Home Re-creation.  Students in grades 1st through 8th are invited to work very hard to learn all they can about the Pilgrim’s Harvest Home Festival.  It is always a surprise when they learn that the event that we think of as “The First Thanksgiving” was quite different from how it is portrayed in today’s society.  Students learn the historical facts from original source documents in regards to dress, food, customs, participants and more.  They then re-enact the abundance gotten in during the harvest and the manifestation of God’s hand in its provision.  The community is always invited to come to the Harvest Home Re-creation to hear the students teach all they have learned.

ALL-SCHOOL PICNIC

CrossPointe’s oldest tradition is the annual All-school Picnic which is held in early fall.  This event consists of hay rides, pony rides, rope climbing, table tennis, bubble making, face painting, music making, friendship building and of course, good eating!

FIELD DAY

Field Day is an all-day event which occurs near the end of May each year.  Events consist of good old fashion outdoor games such as races, balloon tosses, hula-hoop marathons, rope jumping, rope climbing, relays and more.  Students participate in teams of various aged students and develop a spirit of unity and sportsmanship.  It is a tremendously fun day.

ACADEMIC OLYMPICS

Students have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity and ingenuity in several events.  The 2007 Academic Olympics will consist of a Spelling Bee, Egg Drop Contest, Math Competition and more.  Olympic rules will be specified and distributed to all students.
